The Sanctuary
The principal room of the estate, set at the quietest corner of the house. Full-height glass to the garden. A freestanding bath, a walk-in rain shower, a writing desk that faces the lawn.
Mishika Retreat is not a hotel. It is a private estate in Wānaka — a residence designed for the rare guest who has the means to go anywhere, but wants somewhere that is already prepared.
The house sits two minutes from Lake Wānaka and the town centre, framed by mature trees and the Southern Alps. Five ensuite suites. A heated pool that steams at dusk in July. A MasterChef-ready kitchen. A schist-stone fireplace. A garden that holds a family of ten.
The name Mishika means a gift of love. It belongs first to the founder's granddaughter — and now to a retreat built with the patience of a legacy rather than the urgency of a project.
One Master Suite. Four Premium Ensuites. Each named, each photographed like a private residence, each calibrated to a different rhythm of arrival.
The principal room of the estate, set at the quietest corner of the house. Full-height glass to the garden. A freestanding bath, a walk-in rain shower, a writing desk that faces the lawn.
The most social of the rooms — a short walk to the kitchen, the fireside lounge and the pool. Couples and friends travelling together choose this room first.
The warmest and most enclosed of the rooms. Lower ceilings, deeper textiles, smaller windows framing intentional views. The room of choice for writers and late risers.
At the far end of the bedroom wing, behind its own short corridor, with a private entrance from the garden. The quietest room in the estate, in every sense.
The upper level of the eastern wing — the only room with a view across the rooftops toward the lake and the Southern Alps. Best for stargazing and golden hour.
Lake Wānaka stretches forty-five kilometres into the Southern Alps. Swim in summer, walk the foreshore at dawn, find the famous Wānaka Tree on every postcard.
From mid-June. Cardrona is forty minutes by car, Treble Cone thirty. We arrange lift passes, transport and a drying valet for ski mornings that begin in the dark.
Rippon Vineyard on the lakeshore. Felton Road and Mt Difficulty over the hill in Bannockburn. We curate cellar selections and tasting itineraries from the estate.
Available in our two quietest windows of the year — late autumn and spring. Continental breakfast included. Common areas shared respectfully with other guests of the house.
